Club Dirty Approved: Subaru Leone STI Build

The Leone is not what you typically imagine when you hear the name Subaru. The Leone is the predecessor to the Subaru Impreza, which we can all be thankful for. I'm not exactly sure on how to pronounce Leone, but for the purpose of this post you should just refer to it as badass (bad-ass).

This is how the 1986 Leone started life before the conversion. Not too bad, wearing only 17k miles. This is the turbo fwd model. This Subaru is in need of AWD and it will happen!

There are a lot of well documented pictures on this build, so I will highlight the exciting ones.

This built EJ22T is what will be powering the Leone.

The twin scroll turbo setup will help out when you need to hoon.

The build begins!

As I mentioned  the attention to detail of this build is superb. What looks like a stock and boring 80's interior is actually a retro STI cabin. Look for the differential control switches subtly hidden in the dash.

Never mind, this steering wheel looks a lot better! Also the STI shift knob looks at home.

Fast forward through hours of blood, sweat, and tears; you have a fresh and somewhat assembled engine bay.

Remembering this car started fwd, seeing this rear differential mounted is crazy. It is also riding on HSD coilovers.

Leaving out a lot of blanks intentionally, below is the somewhat finished result. A truly bad ass car that respects the Subaru roots while embracing the technology that has made Subaru successful in the modern day.
