Information regarding how the entire V8 Supercar pack and equipment will be shipped over to the Circuit of the Americas inaugural Austin 400 was released today by the V8 Supercars official site. Here are a few of the main takeaways:
- The entire fleet and all the equipment will be flown over via two 747-400 series freight aircraft.
- With last weeks race in Perth (Western Australia), everything has been in transit via trucks over to the east coast back to each teams headquarters. This is a multiple day trip, spanning close to 3000 miles.
- Last minute fixes are made to the cars from the previous race, and then the cars make the trip to Texas. One plane leaves Sunday from Melbourne, and the other leaves Monday from Brisbane. Everyone and all the equipment should be in Texas by Wednesday, at the latest.
- The combined cost of all the cargo on both planes is well over $100 million A$ (with the current conversion rate, that's $100 million US$)
- To save costs, all drivers will be strapped into the cars for the flight (just kidding).
The entire scoop can be read on the V8 Supercars news page.
I am really hoping for a good turnout for the race May 17-19 in Austin.. It will be interesting to see where everyone has traveled from to view the race. If we find out any information regarding after race activities downtown, we will be sure to post it.

While creeping around for more information about the race, I stumbled upon this video of a lucky guy riding around the Circuit of the Americas track in the promotional V8 Supercar. Be sure to have sound enabled.
