Mercedes-Benz To Join V8 Supercars In 2013

V8 Supercars COTF platform has allowed for Mercedes-Benz to join the V8 Supercar racing series in 2013. Mercedes-Benz has a rich racing resume, only to add the V8 Supercars to its long list for 2013. This news release was made public around 1pm on September 19th.

According to news.com.au, the new Mercedes-Benz V8 Supercar will feature the body of an E-Class with a V8 engine courtesy of their AMG division. This news of Mercedes-Benz joining the V8 Supercars will certainly take pressure off Nissan, the other newcomers to the 2013 league. The Nissan team entrance was viewed as being the first "disrupt" to the Holden's and Ford's. The Mercedes-Benz entrance will consist of three privately owned cars by a merged team of Stone Brother Racing and Erebus Motorsports. Stone Brothers Racing has been involved with the V8 Supercar series since 1998, and Erebus Motorsports has been a major contender in Australian GT racing series.

Stone Brothers Racing will be ending their long-term partnership with Ford to use the Mercedes-Benz. Stone Brothers Racing saw former V8 Supercar driver Marcos Ambrose win two consecutive seasons (2003/2004) before making the transition to NASCAR.
